♥This page is dedicated to the puppies and dogs that have found their loving, Adoptive Homes. From time to time, we see them and may place updated photos and bios of them with their new ohana so be sure to check back every-now-and-then.
As rescue is not our primary focus, we feel very fortunate to have found such wonderfully fitting homes for these beloved dogs. They each have very unique stories of rescue and rehabilitation so please feel free to share their stories with others. We, as a society, must realize that opening your heart to a dog in need, rather than buying one, pays-it-forward for our entire island community. We encourage adoption to proactively decrease the number of stray and unwanted dogs. STOP THE CYCLE! If someone you know really wants a specific breed of dog, that's terrific; There are MANY PURE BRED dogs who, at this moment, are waiting to be adopted and even wait to be rescued... Be patient and the right puppy/dog will come come along.
We encourage adoption through ANY AND ALL resources! Be diligent, ask questions and see proper records of proof of all shots and medical treatment. Be sure you are aware of what the dog's needs are so you can be the best owner possible. It also decreases rehoming so you aren't surprised All dogs rely on humans and look to us for guidance. Be a person your dog would be proud to brag about!!
Ikaika has finally found his match!
Ikaika has been adopted by a woman that gives him a wonderful life. She understands him and his needs and appreciates his personality and unconditional love. He has a vet and a groomer that makes house calls so that he is comfortable with his surroundings. Talk about putting his needs first! We couldn't of asked for a better adopter for this little man.
Ikaika was born in the bushes of Waianae and was very timid as a young pup. He is well socialized with dogs. Ikaika is a very sweet and loving pup who only wants the approval of his human. He is a happy, healthy pup that is eager to be at your side and in your lap.
While in foster care Zara battled numerous health issues. Her foster mama worked tirelessly with us to ensure Zara had the best possible chance of survival. With her foster, a deep bond was formed and Zara is a lucky gal who has been adopted by her foster Ohana! She is now and always will be a Powell pup. We are grateful for the stability and know that this is her forever home.
Here is Zara (right) visiting with her brother Ikaika (left) at a prior K9 Kokua adoption event.
Kia is loving life in Maui!!
She has been adopted by a wonderful lady who has an older dog and they are a happy little ohana now. We could not be more happier for Kia as she starts her new life with Vanessa and Loke.
Here is Kia when she was in Foster Care. She is lounging with Patrick, the cat. Kia is a very social gal who loves all nice dogs and cats and that is all thanks to our devoted Foster Homes.
Keahi has found her man!! She is completely content and he reports that she is such a great gal and has great etiquette! We will be posting an updated pic of Keahi and her papa. We happily welcome him into our K9 Kokua Ohana!
ORIGINAL POSTING:Look into her eyes and they will capture you. When she's happy her tail has the cutest, stubby wiggle we have seen! As mentioned in her sibling, Kea's bio, they were all born with different length tails and Keahi's is the shortest. We do feel that mama is a mix of Lab/PB/Sharpei. At least that's what the vet says. Keahi is 8 months old, weighs about 28 lbs and probably won't get much larger. She is not too tall. She's a bulky built little girl and loves to be in your lap for hugs!
Here's Keahi's most recent pictures. She is very happy with her man and is living the life she and all dogs deserve.
Here's Lil' Nala visiting us at an adoption event. 9/2011
Little Nala has found her angels! She is the only small fry in the house and she would not have asked for anything more! They report that they are very happy with their match! Her ohana tells us that she is the ambassador for K9 Kokua! They are very kind to tell us that and it warms our heart because they recognize how much care went into her rehabilitation. They brought her for a visit and we were fortunate enough to have all siblings in attendance!! It was crazy and wonderful at the same time. We appreciate them and are honored to welcome them into our extended ohana!
ORIGINAL POSTING: Little Nala has had her ups-and-downs in her short life, so far. First, she almost was strangled in a freak incident with a towel at her mama dog's house, then she contracted parvo (she almost didn't make it!) and finally she was attacked by an adult stray dog! Her body was riddled with puncture wounds!
Now, she is enjoying life! No problems or bad situations. Only a bright future to look forward to!! She is a healthy girl who is up-to-date on her shots and deworming. She is spayed, microchipped and current on her bordatella. She is potty trained and can use a doggie door with ease. She used to be around children and a cat on a daily basis. She gets along with other dogs but she prefers nothing more that to be right by your side in the house. She can be a bit on the shy side, at times. She's a little 8 month old couch potato and she also loves her doggie bed.
Nick has found his match! He has been welcomed into a wonderful home with a family of 4! He has come full circle and we could not be happier. They are not only Nick's family but now a part of our extended K9 Kokua Ohana!
ORIGINAL POSTING:He is named after the good samaritan who kept him safe until we could pick him up. At first, we didn't know what to name him and then his holding home tried a few names and what do you know? Nick chose his name.
Nick is up-to-date on his shots and bordatella. He is neutered and microchipped. He is about 1-2years old and is a possible min pin/basenji mix. He is VERY people focused. He does get along with other dogs and loves going to the dog park but he will push other dogs away from you to hog all of the attention. With this knowledge, he will do best in a home with a submissive female or with no other dog, as long as his human is home all the time with him. Perfect pal for a retired person!
He is potty trained and knows how to sit. He plays with his toys vigorously and really enjoys being the center of the house's attention.
Once, Snowball was a houseless dog on the beach. She was owned by a man who loved her but could not keep her safe. Unfortunately, on January 20, 2010 Snowball was hit by a car. He called us right away and we picked them up immediately to go into the vet.
Her injuries were so extensive that her leg needed amputation. Being that her medical bills were going to be costly, and we worried that he could no longer ensure her safety, we informed him that if he relinquished her, we would Adopt her out to a good home. He did and was able to visit with her a couple times while she was hospitalized at the vet. His love was so great for her that he said he wanted her to live a long life and that can happen only if she comes off the beach. Besides her leg being crushed in the accident, her spleen was enlarged and she tested positive for Ehrlichia.
Snowball is a terrier mix who is about 14 months old. She is spayed, is current on her shots and bordatella. She is also microchipped and has been dewormed.
Currently, she is in her Foster Home, learning all of the wonderful new things that living indoors, brings. She has been excellent with potty-training and walks happily on a leash. She can even go up and down stairs! She is not used to being alone yet and can get destructive if she feels locked away from the rest of the house. Snowball craves being able to relax right at your side and she also likes having her own spot in the home, to be alone when she feels the urge.
She would love a quiet house with someone that is always home and who w
ill give her love and safety, forever!
